Catherine on 26th May 2006 - 17:03 Dear Mike and Jeff, Thank you SO MUCH for creating and upkeeping Doug's website. It is a great tribute and very important to all those who loved him to have a place to go to and see all the love from everyone else -- and all the great pictures, too. I used to live in Mayook just up the road past the lake. And, so we all used to get together at Doug's and do music. Doug and Larry (MacKenzie) and Van and I, in particular, used to play together and do coffeehouses. So many memories of which I plan to submit at a later date. I just wanted to forward to you a song that Doug wrote (and which we played at a coffeehouse at least 9 years ago (as I've been here in Santa Cruz now for almost 8 years). (Time is going by waaaay too fast!) Anyway, the chorus is soooooooo Doug! NAMASTE editor's note: Doug's song is now in the writings section of the site.
Shawna on 26th May 2006 - 15:42 There is a quote from Kibhil Gibran that says" For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence, as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain." "And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit." I am forever grateful to the Creator for the gift of Doug Erickson, he was such an amazing man, and friend. Doug has shared his life and light. Let us do the same.
Cathy Korven and the Kids on 26th May 2006 - 13:11 Doug celebrated every person he came into contact with, leaving you with a feeling that you were someone very special. That was his magic. I will miss that ray of sunshine in my life. Love ya Doug.

Lou Scott from Wales, UK. on 26th May 2006 - 12:39 Doug made me feel welcome and valued when I arrived in Wasa for a season as a volunteer Park Ranger in 1989. A long way from college in London and my home in Wales his warmth and kindness put me at ease. He was part of a surprise at my leaving party when my newfound friends sang and played their farewells to me. I will never forget him.
Rick Fines on 26th May 2006 - 12:01 I was lucky enough to spend some time with Doug on a few occassions and to get to know a kind and generous man. He made his home a place to play music and a place to sleep and eat as we travelled through as touring musicians. I feel that Doug was a kindred soul who set an example we could all learn from. It's up to us to fill the hole left by the loss of such a generous soul. I miss him.
Craig Yakiwchuk on 26th May 2006 - 01:50 WE are all too often reminded that life is way too short. I don't just say this as an over-used phrase, but really mean it. Doug was the kind of guy that gave everyone the sense that he really lived his life, and enjoyed every second of it. I look back to the college days of Doug playing his guitar over the camp fire. These times will stay with me for my lifetime. I hope that our lives allow us to sit by many more campfires, and remember Doug for the times he gave us.
See you by the campfire, Doug.
Your friend, Yak
Jeff & Jen Wright - Ontario on 24th May 2006 - 21:49 The last time we saw Doug it was on Apr.4, Jeff's last day at Interior. Doug stopped by to wish us luck on our move to Ontario. Since we couldn't make the trip back to BC for the wake we wanted to make sure we did something special. Jeff spent the day building a cedar raft carrying 2 candles. At dusk we lit the candles & set the raft afloat into Georgian Bay. We watched it under a starry sky & distant fire crackers. It was a memorable moment that we will never forget just as we will never forget Doug.
Jon Bisset on 24th May 2006 - 19:47 I feel very lucky to have known Doug, if only for a short time. He was one of those rare people that touched everyone he met, and improved their life just by meeting him. He had so many great qualities, that are too hard to describe. I'll miss chatting, joking, drinking, floating, and playing guitar with him - I learned so much in such a short time. It's up to us to carry on his legacy - I hope to live a life so full and rich and happy as his.
Cheers, Doug, I miss you (and I'm finally going to start eating vegetables, even learn the song)! Thanks for this great website. Shaky
Heidi Ward Achenbach on 24th May 2006 - 12:27 Thanks, Folks...for putting up this site as a beatiful tribute to such a beautiful person. I feel so blessed and grateful to have known Doug, from years ago, and was always received with a warm smile and warmer hug whenever our paths crossed.
A Bruce Cockburn song that Doug introduced to me has this to say: "There's a bone in my ear, keeps singing your name. Sometimes it's like pleasure, sometimes it's like pain. It's a small voice and quiet, but I hear it plain. There's a bone in my ear, keeps singing your name."
Love, Heidi
van redecopp on 24th May 2006 - 12:19 it has been such a priviledge being close to doug. we always got a laff about a rumor that he and I were gay. So many wonderful memories about doug. He lived the way I would live if I were chooosing characteristics of being in a supermarket . . .kind, understanding, forgiving, patient (so patient), open, unafraid, giving (and giving, and giving), tolerant, joyous, content, approachable, easy, respectful, etc.thanks for the example doug and for your love. I miss you so much and it's only been a week. Namaste and peace to you all. van redecopp
